Basically, you go there, search for a particular album or band and it collects information from all over the interwebz regarding prices from different websites. It's a good way to track down some hard to find stuff and also to make sure you're not getting ripped.
Nevermore To Enter Studio In August Seattle metallers NEVERMORE will enter the studio in August with producer (and SOILWORK guitarist) Peter Wichers (who previously worked with NEVERMORE vocalist Warrel Dane on Dane's solo debut, "Praises to the War Machine") to begin recording their long-awaited follow-up to 2005's "This Godless Endeavor", tentatively due in early 2010 via Century Media Records. Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD) will once again be handling mixing duties.
Commented Dane: "These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and Andy will result in something very, very special."
Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Emptiness Unobstructed" and "Without Morals".
NEVERMORE's "The Year Of The Voyager" DVD last year entered the German DVD chart at position No. 82.
"The Year Of The Voyager" was released in North America on November 25, 2008 via Century Media. The set covers the "This Godless Endeavor" touring cycle, starting with amazing live footage from the U.S. Gigantour 2005, the Metal Mania festival 2006 in Poland, the Wacken Open Air festival in 2006 in Germany and the main DVD show recorded at the Zeche in Bochum, Germany on October 11, 2006. Bonus material includes two songs from Century Media USA 10th Anniversary Party 2001, all promo videos and an interview with singer Warrel Dane which was recorded at the Roax Film Studios in Berlin in the spring of 2008.

Sorry for the inconsistency in posting...dead week has been kicking my ass.
Just thought I'd let you all know, I've added a new blog to the "Blog List" box on the right hand side. It's called Death Metal Invasion, and it's probably one of the best extreme metal blogs out there. The economy is shitty, and CDs are expensive, so check it out.
I've got some other, more grind/punk oriented ones that I'll throw up in the coming days.
Maryland Deathfest was the best three days of my life, hands down. Even though Marduk and Pestilence didn't show up, we were treated to TWO fucking Bolt Thrower sets, one of which was inside. "Epic," is the only word to describe. Here's a short review of the 'fest: Friday Missed the first three bands because Bleeder and I went to the Babe Ruth Museum. Totally worth it, but I'm kind of bummed I missed Jig-Ai. Sayyadina – Only caught about half of their set, but it was cool. Gnostic – Really bad. Cattle Decapitation - Seen them like 5 times, so I didn't pay much attention. Cephalic Carnage - Same as CxDx. Seeing "Black Metal Sabbath" was cool though. Pigsty – Their set was a blast. Insane vocal performance, some drunk guy going apeshit and over the railing (twice) and inflatable sword fights in the pit. Mayhem – Meh, didn't do a whole lot for me. I couldn't hear Attila for probably 90% of the set. I'm even less impressed now that I know they cut in to Asphyx's time. Asphyx - FUCKING AMAZING. Van Drunen is a god and probably put out my two favorite performances of the 'fest. Awesome setlist, as they mostly played stuff off The Rack and The Last One On Earth. Venomous Concept - Good. Definitely got better as their set went on. Kevin was drunk as hell and funny: "More alcohol in the monitors." Victims – Awesome. First time hearing/seeing them and I loved it. Tons of energy and a great way to end the night. Saturday Drugs of Faith – Didn't watch. Maruta – Only caught the last couple songs. It was okay. Pretty Little Flower – Loved them...intense as fuck. Unearthly Trance – I've never listened to them before, but they were heavier than elephant shit. Perfect set length too. Crowpath – Moments of their set were really enjoyable, but for the most part, I couldn't get in to it. Flesh Parade – Really, really awesome. The vocals blew my mind. Weekend Nachos – I was in the bathroom for 5 minutes and missed all but one song. Rotten Sound – Didn't watch--me and dr0ne were outside singing along to Slipknot over the PA and getting a spot for Hail Of Bullets. Hail of Bullets – Like I said before, Van Drunen is amazing live. "Nachthexen" was as heavy as any song at the 'fest. Shit ruled. Brutal Truth - Sat down in the back and relaxed and didn't really pay attention. Misery Index – Briefly caught the end of their set before Immo. 'Twas pretty good, and loud as hell. Immolation – Had to make a tough choice to leave 4 songs in to get a good spot for Birdflesh, but those four songs kicked immense amounts of ass. "Father, You're Not A Father" into "Swarm Of Terror" was epic. Birdflesh – SO. MUCH. FUN. The between-song-banter and song explanations are hilarious, and they were really tight. Me and my friends throwing 200 Glo-Sticks in the pit = awesome. Atheist - Sat in the back and relaxed. Something about the sound was kind of wonky, and I lost interest pretty quickly. Pig Destroyer – Pretty good. Kind of bummed they didn't play "Junkyard God," but they did play "Jennifer" and "Pissangel," which ruled. Scott Hull was not happy about the left over Glo-Sticks getting thrown on stage. Napalm Death - Again, sat in the back and relaxed, but it what I heard sounded good. Also, was too busy watching all the hood-ass security guards quell the Great Crustie Revolt of 2009. Phobia – Didn't watch. Bolt Thrower – Awesome set, and awesome setlist. We were a little ways back, but it still crushed. General Surgery - Tons and tons of fun. They had some sound problems early on, but powered through them. The new singer and material sounded really good. Wolves in the Throne Room – Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tired to care. Left early. Sunday We missed a lot of bands on Sunday, mostly on account of being fucking exhausted.
Complete Failure – Didn't watch Agenda of Swine – Didn't watch. The Endless Blockade – Didn't watch. Lair of the Minotaur – Didn't watch. Magrudergrind – Decent, but kind of disappointing Kill the Client – So fucking intense. Like entwined said, I bet they would kick ass in a basement show. Their lead singer scared the shit out of me. Splitter – My first time hearing them, but I dug it. Despise You – Bad. The Red Chord – I had a blast. The "Dreaming In Dog Years" pile-on at the end was rad. Also, surprisingly well received. Yakuza – Didn't watch. Catheter – Pretty good set. Tight, but the low vocals were weak and I thought the whole set was kind of flat. Krallice – Unfortunately, I missed this set. Antigama – One of my favorites of the 'fest. Really tight, good setlist and length, high intensity and Sivy killed it on the drums. Absu – Didn't watch. Abscess – Didn't watch. Aura Noir – Didn't watch. Destroyer 666 – Didn't watch. Trap Them – SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD. I'd never bothered to listen to these guys, which was a huge mistake, because they brought huge amounts of win. One of, if not the most, energetic sets of the 'fest. Bolt Thrower, v2.0 - So much better inside. "World Eater" in to "Cenotaph" was awesome, and the whole set kicked my ass. Super loud, gut-rumbling heavy. Devourment – My first time seeing them, but it was about what I expected...awesome. The pit was fucking nuts, and the SMN blow-up toys and monkey masks were hilarious, especially Bleeder in his short-ass cut offs and Jewski fucking the inflatable money. Also, Eston putting on the monkey mask made me laugh. Sigh - Watched like 4-5 songs before a 1-woman mosh pit and sheer exhaustion made me leave. It was good shit, but really hard to be enthused about at the end of the weekend.
Here's a brief video of the Birdflesh set. Keep an eye out for the Glo-Sticks flying around--that was me and my friends:
It seems like there is going to be an official MDF VII DVD released, so I'll provide more details on that as they become available.
Also, check out Return To The Pit for all the pictures you could ever want. I didn't even bother with band pics, as most of them turned out like crap.
I'll be talking a lot more about the 'fest on Friday, as well as playing some of the music from the bands that killed it.
I think it's fucking awesome. Behemoth haven't always been known for their fantastic artwork (Zos Kia Cultus? Ugh), but this is super refreshing--not just in terms of Behemoth, but extreme metal in general. I really dig the faux-woodcut, Gustav Dore vibe.
Look for the album to be released August 11th on Metal Blade records.
The news is that it leaked. I don't want to post the link here, as I respect the band and Tipton from Willotip (their label). But if you really want it, Google blog search is your friend...it's out there.
I know I promised to pre-record a Maryland Deathfest extravaganza to play on Friday in my absence, but I just couldn't get a 2-hour slot in the product ion room to get it done. Either DJ Autobot or someone else will take my spot this week, and it probably won't be metal, so...mah bad.
Look for the show to be back next week though, with a brand new kick-ass roll in. I'll still record an MDF show, and probably just podcast it. I promise I'll have a shit ton of pics when I get back, and hopefully, at the very least, I'll update the blog at least once daily from Maryland.
I've spent the better part of two hours trying to figure out how to podcast my show, and have completely given up--I have no idea how to "burn" a "feed" or what RSS is for, and I don't care...so I just uploaded this last show to Megaupload as an mp3. Click the link below, and get ya' ears fukked:
I've got all of this quarter's shows archived on the computer in the DJ booth, and I'll upload them as well whenever I get around to editing them and shit.
Even though it's just a brief comp of some stuff off the upcoming album "Fragmentary Evidence," it still gave me a half-boner. The tone just on this video is infinitely better than the tone on "Concealed," and the riffs are fucking tasty. I am highly anticipating this album...enjoy:
Check it out here, and check out the CD Release page for the "Blood Oath" release date, and a shit ton of others.
I gotta' say, after one listen, I'm pretty underwhelmed. Nothing about that song particularly catches my attention--it's just kind of there. Hopefully this is either a weak song, or a grower, because this doesn't bode too well in my opinion.
Off their new album, "Strange Cousins From The West," it's called "Abraham Lincoln." Not really that metal, but these guys groove like sons of bitches and always put out solid shit.
More new music, in the form of a song off ASPHYX's upcoming album "Death The Brutal Way," (June 22nd, Century Records) has been released. I don't see this album making huge waves or becoming an instant classic, this new material is brutal as fuck, and I anticipate a decent release from these guys.
"Programmers Of Decline" has made its way on to the interwebz, the second track to do so off their upcoming album "Process Of A New Decline." While I enjoy "Disavow Your God" a ton, this song cements PoD's album of the year potential for me.
Check it out here. Also, Willowtip is now accepting pre-orders for the album, set to be released on July 28th. Check out the link in the sidebar.
It's short, and it's just guitars and bass with Guitar Pro 5 drums, but it sounds awesome. If you were hoping for Noctambulant II, then you're in luck, because that's exactly what this sounds like--really techy and really catchy. The bass sounds awesome too, and is probably so loud thanks to the fact that bassist Erlend Casparssen (sorry if I butchered that name) mixed it.
This has to be one of the most difficult messages to be written. We are sorry to announce that Hupogrammos and Sol Faur have ended their journey along NEGURA BUNGET. Our paths are now apart. We wish them all the best on their new endeavors (their new project will be announced at a later time).
Meanwhile, a new NEGURA BUNGET line-up is assembled , which will continue the path started almost 15 years ago. Rest assure, we are keen to prove there is more to be said by this band, and we will work to fulfill our spiritual endeavor relentlessly . All NEGURA BUNGET scheduled plans (concerts, festivals, contracts with Aural Music/Code666 Records and Prophecy Productions/Lupus Lounge) will be completed in the new formula. New website and myspace page are developed and will soon be online.
Negru, of behalf of NEGURA BUNGET.
The new official NEGURA BUNGET line-up is: Corb - guitars/vocals Spin - guitars Gădineţ - bass Inia Dinia - keyboards Ageru Pamanatului - vocals/pipes/percussions/xylophone Negru - drums/percussions
A word from Hupogrammos and Sol Faur: We would like to thank everybody who supported and believed in NEGURA BUNGET and invite you to follow our further musical activities.
Disappointing, for sure. But at least the band is still together and (planning on) making more good music.
Here's a video of DECREPIT BIRTH's Matt Sotelo jamming some new material:
I'll admit that I'm not crazy about this clip; there's some cool riffs on there, but it sounds a bit wanky to me. But Matt said this album was going to be loaded with gnar riffs, and would have some songs with no solos a la "...And Time Begins," so he's got me pretty excited for it.
...now they are just awful. Check out this horrendous cover they did of t.A.t.U's "All The Things She Said":
I don't know which is more astounding; the fact that I made it all the way through that video or the fact that THE BERZERKER actually released this shit. Bring back the cool masks and leave the underage lesbian gimmick to t.A.t.U, they do it waaaaaaay better.
This is video footage of Ihsahn's first ever live performance, taken March 10th at the Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway. Norway's LEPROUS provided support as his band. The song is "Scarab" of his last album aNGL:
I'm speechless--flawless performance and that little bit of "Emancipation" at the end is a huge tease.
I still haven't seen an official date for the release of the album, but here is the cover art and tracklisting. Also, visit the bands MySpace page to hear some new tunes.
Shining - VI: Klagopsalmer
1. Vilseledda barnasjälars hemvist 2. Plågoande o'helga plågoande 3. Krossade drömmar och brutna löften 4. Fullständigt jävla död inuti 5. Ohm - skoj att leva 6. Total utfrysning
English translations: 1. Mislead Child-souls' Residence 2. Tormented Spirit, Oh Holy Tormented Spirit 3. Crushed Dreams and Broken Promises 4. Completely Fucking Dead Inside 5. Ohm - Fun to Live 6. Total Desolation
Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of Boston-based metal band REVOCATION.
REVOCATION (David Davidson–guitar/vocals, Phil Dubois–Drums, Anthony Buda–bass/vocals) is currently recording their second full-length album and Relapse debut Existence Is Futile at Damage Studios in Southbridge, MA with Pete Rutcho. "Existence Is Futile" is expected to see a fall 2009 release date.
REVOCATION’s Davidson commented on the signing and new album; “After several years of hard work and determination we're glad to announce that we have signed to Relapse. We are all really excited to be working with Relapse to release our new record "Existence is Futile". We’ve once again chosen Pete Rutcho from Damage Studios to record this album and are wrapping up the vocals now. The material is really varied, ranging from very epic to an all out metal assault and we can't wait for people to hear it!”
REVOCATION released their debut album Empire Of The Obscene last spring. Audio samples can be heard now via the band’s MySpace page.
REVOCATION has a number of regional shows lined up, including a performance as part of the Relapse Contamination Tour stop in Boston, MA on May 10th. The band will also embark on a mini-tour in June alongside QUO VADIS and DARK FAITH. A listing of confirmed tour dates and cities can be found below with more to be announced soon.
I didn't post any of the tour dates, as they're all on the East Coast. Cool signing though, Revocation is good and it's good to see Canadian bands like them and Quo Vadis getting more American exposure and tour support.
Germany's DEFEATED SANITY have officially signed with Willowtip Records. The band is set to head into the studio this summer to record their third full-length album, "Chapters Of Repugnance" for a late 2009/early 2010 release. Recording will take place at Soundforge Studios in Berlin. The bands previous full length “Psalms of the Moribund” (2007, Grindthic) is widely considered a classic in the brutal/technical death metal genre. In 2008, Defeated Sanity toured the US and also appeared at the Maryland Deathfest. Demo tracks from DEFEATED SANITY's upcoming album can be heard at their MySpace.
This is awesome as it probably means we'll get a US tour out of these guys at some point, plus no more insanely expensive European merch.
Earlier I posted details about the new Augury album "Fragmentary Evidence". A couple new pieces of information have surfaced including this ridonkulous list of guest vocalists:
and this bass video of Forest playing "Simian Cattle" (which is too big and awesome to fit on the blog, so click the video to see it full-size on YouTube):
DEFEATED SANITY have posted rehearsal videos for two songs off their upcoming third album "Chapters Of Repugnance," making today the most glorious day of the week. Check them out (and then cream your pants) below:
Spin magazine have released their list of the "Top 5 Metal Bands You Know," and surprisingly, it doesn't suck.
How Spin succeeded at creating a "top ___ metal bands list" that isn't laughably bad, and metal-themed magazines (Metal Hammer, Revolver, etc.) routinely fail at it is beyond me, but either way, good on them. Here they are (check out the full article here):
Anyone who listens to the show regularly probably recognizes at least Krallice and Toxic Holocaust, as I play them fairly regularly. Baroness may have popped up once or twice, but I know I haven't played Trash Talk or Kylesa...I'll remedy that this week.
Extreme metallers ANAAL NATHRAKH have posted two new songs to their MySpace page off their upcoming album "In The Constellation Of The Black Widow." You can check them out here.
I've never listened to these guys before, so I don't really have much to say. Slow news day.
Pretty much what the title says--this video was taken at Inferno Fest 2009 in Norway. The video shows "Ceasuri Rele" in full, with new material tacked on the end. Sounds fantastic, but there's no reason it shouldn't, because hey, it's Negura Bunget:
I know this isn't too pertinent to us here in the Willamete Valley, but if any of you are going to be in LA while this fest is going on, go to this. It's as good a death metal festival as we'll get on the West Coast.
A while back, I posted a link to (legally) download BIOLICH's 1997 demo tape. Well, the New Yorkers are reportedly in the process of making their entire discography available for free, on account of most of it being fucking impossible to find.
You can now download the 2001 and 2004 demos either by clicking on those years, or traveling to the bands MySpace page and clicking the links in the "Sounds Like" section.
A little birdy told me that Portugal's WORMED are deep in to the writing process and may soon be signed to a pretty fucking awesome label *cough*Brutal Bands*cough*. I don't have anything official, so you're just going to have to take my word for it.
Drummer Andy C left the band not too long ago, and I haven't heard who his replacement is going to be, so hopefully we'll see that announcement soon.
From the new album "Blood Oath" due out July 3rd: 1. Blood Oath 2. Dismal Dream 3. Pray For Forgiveness 4. Images Of Purgatory 5. Cataclysmic Purification 6. Mental Hemorrhage 7. Come Hell Or High Priest 8. Undeserving 9. Provoking The Disturbed 10. Martial Decimation
Not the coolest album cover I've seen, but I've seen much worse and it's definitely a step up from the artwork on the last one. Either way, good/bad artwork is not the reason I'll be buying this album.
According to Nuclear Blast, AUGURY's next release will be titled "Fragmentary Evidence" and will be released on July 17th. Track list and artwork are below:
1. Aetheral 2. Simian Cattle 3. Orphans of living 4. Jupiter to Ignite 5. Sovereigns Unknown 6. Skyless 7. Faith Puppeteers 8. Brimstone Landscapes 9. Oversee the Rebirth
Words cannot express my level of excitement for this.
June 13th - Phobia/Magrudergrind/Unholy Grave @ Satyricon June 18th - Isis/Helms Alee/Mamiffer @ The Hawthorne Theater July 10th - Trap Them/Skeletonwtich/Saviours @ Satyricon July 15th - Wolves In The Throne Room/Minsk @ Berbati's July 28th - Clutch/Baroness @ The Crystal Ballroom September 6th - Hellbastards @ TBA (Eugene) October 6th - Augury/God Dethroned/Abigail Williams/Woe Of Tyrants @ Satyricon
I don't have many specifics, as I got this news story from a forum post, but ELEMENT have released album art, album title and the track list for their upcoming album. It'll be called the "The Energy" and recording officially started on April 11th. There is a snippet from the upcoming album on their MySpace page.
1. Circle Of Ascension 2. Vexed 3. The Energy 4. A Gesture From November 5. Everchanging 6. Sunset Karavan 7. Into The Neverdark 8. Tragedy Of The Jesters Symphony 9. Liquid Space Eyes 10. Dreaming Forever
That album art is absolutely amazing. I'll be buying the album purely for that.
Poland's AZARATH have posted two new tracks ("Invocation" and "Sacrifice Of Blood") from their upcoming album "Praise The Beast" (May 25th, Agonia/Deathgasm Records) to their MySpace page. AZARATH features BEHEMOTH drummer Inferno.
If nothing else these two tracks are worth listening to for Inferno's apeshit drumming and the vocal chant on "Sacrifice Of Blood," shit is epic.
I don't have an official story for this yet, but the word on the street is that Las Vegas' GUTTURAL SECRETE have (or will soon be) signed on to label Brutal Bands. Apparently, they are also pretty deep into the writing process, so hopefully we'll see a follow up to "Reek Of Pubescent Despoilment Soon," and maybe a tour.
Like I said, I don't have a story as I don't think anything is official yet, so here's a sweet CEPHALOTRIPSY video featuring Matt from GUTTURAL SECRETE:
1. Here Die Your Gods - 04:35 2. Thirst For Power - 03:09 3. Blackout - 04:46 4. Chronicle From The Stone Age - 03:18 5. Life Controller - 04:43 6. Edaenia 2312 - 05:27 7. State Of Secret - 04:24 8. Eternal Messiah - 03:12 9. Obsequiem Minaris - 03:53 10. Hidden Genocide - 05:20 Total playing time - 41:27
Gorod's second album is a tech-death masterpiece. It avoids over-technicality and wankery, striking a perfect balance between tech and groove, brutal and melodic. Definitely worth a listen.
1. Kawazu - 00:36 2. Summoning Redemption - 07:17 3. Ageless, Still I Am - 05:18 4. He Who Sleeps - 04:05 5. To The Victor, The Spoils - 03:43 6. At One With Nothing - 04:34 7. Opening Of The Gates - 05:16 8. Secured Limitations - 04:39 9. Awakening - 01:22 10. I - 03:50 11. God Of The Forsaken - 03:50 Total playing time - 44:28
Fact: Morbid Angel rules--it's science, look it up. Yet somehow, in the face of irrefutable scientific evidence, I managed to overlook Morbid Angel's "Gateways to Annihilation" for years. It could be because it features Steve Tucker on vox, and the first Steve Tucker album I heard ("Heretic") was laughably bad. It may also be because it's toward the back of MA's alphabetical discography, and I was too caught up in the dick-stomping A-D albums to make way down the line. Either way, I'm making an admission of faggotry, because "Gateways" is fucking amazing.
On their first three albums, Morbid Angel proved that they could play really, really fast. On their fourth, they proved that they could slow it down and get a little grimey. What "Gateways" represents is an apolcalyptic, tormented union of the two styles. Take for example, the 3-hit combo of "To The Victor, The Spoils," "At One With Nothing," and "Opening Of The Gates"; the first shows the speed, the second shows the sludge, and the third is what happens when the first two have sex, don't use protection and decide not to abort. It's got super-chunky rhythms, courtesy of Eric Rutan, mind-bending Azagthoth riffs (duh), 808-style bass drops that would make Kanye jealous, and 220+ BPM hyperblasts from Pete Sandoval that are absolutely gut-busting (which were apparently quantized on the recording without his knowledge). This song is worth the download alone and really is a microcosmic representation of the album as a whole--it's creative, evil, brutal and powerful as fuck.
1. A Looming Resonance 13:01 2. Hate Crystal 10:38
Total playing time: 23:39
It's two songs, and their first album with new guitar player, Will Lindsay (ex-MIDDIAN). It also features female vocalist Jami Meyers (HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE), who was on their debut album, "Diadem of 12 Stars." The vinyl is available to purchase from Southern Lord Records
Sorry dudez, I don't mean to turn this into the Behemoth Blog, but here are the other two studio updates they've posted for the new album (the one I already posted was Ep. III):
I talked about the pure cheesiness/asskickery of this video on the show last night, so here it is for all those who haven't seen it:
Seriously, see these guys live if you ever get the chance. They'll most likely be playing second bill to some garbage "-core" band, but it'll worth it, considering Behemoth will probably tear you and everyone else in the crowd a new asshole.
California's INHERIT DISEASE have posted a new song to MySpace, from their upcoming untitled full length. The song is called "Beyond The Tyranny Of Entropy," and can be heard here.
Here is a video of them playing another song off the album (sans vocals):
Birth Of The Artilect
This new stuff sounds pretty promising to me. The productions isn't great, but that could be the shitty MySpace player. There's some nice riffs in there, and the drum patterns have improved a ton since their last album "Procreating An Apocalypse." The vocals still don't do a whole lot for me, but the new material indicates this new album with probably with picking up.
AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED are known for their spasmodic take on grindcore, but as the band's leader Scott Hull told Noisecreep last month, their upcoming album, "Agorapocalypse," was also inspired by crossover thrash greats CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. We asked the guitarist what he thought about the current crop of thrash bands that have popped up in the last few years. "The optimist in me thinks it's cool to have a new strain of influence that gets people excited. Unfortunately, it reeks of opportunism," complains Hull.
We obviously struck a nerve because he wasn't done yet. "The strangest thing is most of them don't really sound like the bands I was listening to back then. It all really does seem very fad-ish." His bullshit radar also detects some questionable fashion choices, "Certainly it's a rehash and it's weird to see some of these bands hamming it up for the camera, flipping the bills of their hats up." In the end, Hull admits the new breed of thrash acts are probably not going away anytime soon, "I don't know but it's hard for me to be tough on bands that are doing what they do well."
Last year Hull oversaw a collection called "This Comp Kills Fascists" for the folks at Relapse Records, which exclusively featured grind bands. We asked him if it was his way of paying tribute to the compilations that inspired him. "Absolutely, you've hit the nail on the head! Compilations like "Cry Now, Cry Later, the "Reality" comps, "Accidental Double Homicide" (Satan's Pimp's 7" comps), Earache Records' "Grindcrusher" comp, "The North Atlantic Noise Attack," and "Apocalyptic Convulsions" are all classics in their genres and they had a huge impact on me." The scrappy artwork for "This Comp Kills Fascists" also had special meaning to Scott: "I also wanted to have the artwork reflect back to the time when no one had Photoshop. It was all about going into Kinko's with some stolen artwork and copying, cutting, and pasting everything together."
Despite his brutal recording output with AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, PIG DESTROYER, and his various other projects, Hull is a family man with kids, a mortgage, and a job working with the government. Growing up in a home with a music collection as vast and eclectic as Hull's probably sounds like complete bliss to anyone reading this. Noisecreep had to ask Scott if his kids like blast beats yet. "Well, my one-year-old dances to anything with a drumbeat but my older son hates grind. He hates all of the screaming and is into his mom's club music a lot more. He'll be like my Alex P. Keaton."
Even though I think he should spend less time worrying about nu-thrash and more time making less shitty AxNxBx albums, I tend to agree with Scott on this. With the exception of Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust, none of these bands are doing anything original in a genre that really peaked in the 1980's. Dumbs kids are latching on to this the way they latched on to deathcore, and will continue to latch on to the newest fad after this becomes old hat.
Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH have posted the third in a series of webisodes (see below) documenting the making of their new, as-yet-untitled album. The band is currently working in the "B room" of Radio Gdansk, recording guitar solos and vocals, with Jan Bryt behind the mixing board.
BEHEMOTH bassist Orion has issued a following update: "We're getting further and further with the work on this new album, the end is near! For bass tracks recording, I used tested, verified and proven for years ESP basses and Sansamp preamplifier. Plus quite new in my arsenal — Marbass amp and cabinet. This time, there was less of searching and more of self-confidence, realizing very definite and precise goals in the matter of sound. Resolutely, it's the most efficient and conscious recording session of BEHEMOTH!"
BEHEMOTH has tapped Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS) to mix its new CD, due out late summer via Metal Blade (USA) and Nuclear Blast (Europe).
BEHEMOTH mainman Nergal previously stated about the new material, "I must confess that I'm way more excited about this record than I was for 'The Apostasy'. It's probably the whole label situation that we had to deal back then, Inferno's injury that caused crazy deadlines that completely drained the energy out of my system… I even started treating that album as unwanted child. Weird, because from time perspective, it's a great one. This time though everything was planned much in advanced. I found time to live my life, get some energy back, get inspired and so on… When we met in October it was obvious that all of us were really hungry for making new music. It's definitely 100% BEHEMOTH. I would risk saying that we do have our own style but it's still improving, evolving in different directions every time we approach new project. Most of the songs are the really fast, technical and intense, at the same time there's a lot of diversity. There's even a very slow, massive song that's probably the most epic tracks in BEHEMOTH's history. Everything sounds more serious and…dangerous (I love that word, ha ha). There's probably more sinister vibe in our music this time too."
The more of these updates I see from these guys, the more excited I get for this release. Admittedly, after "The Apostasy" I wasn't too excited for more of the (same) Behemoth, but it sounds like they might be going in a different/better direction. Plus, a new album means a new tour, and for those who haven't seen them live, Behemoth fucking kills it...one of the gnarliest live bands around.
"Evolution Through Revolution", the first full-length album in 10 years from the reunited seminal grindcore/extreme metal outfit BRUTAL TRUTH, is available for streaming in its entirety at EvolutionThroughRevolution.info.
GOROD have posted a new track "Disavow Your God"from their upcoming album "Process Of A New Decline" on MySpace. The album, which is due out "before the summer," is the first to feature Sam (ex-ZUBROWSKA) on drums.
Gorod's last album, "Leading Vision," is an absolute masterpiece, in my opinion. While this new song is awesome, and I find myself listening to it over and over again (that tapping section...holy shit!), it's hard to tell if the new album has the potential to usurp "Leading Vision," based solely on the one cut. Better or not, I'm sure it'll be turn out to be worth multiple spins. Check out some of the videos below:
Swedish technical death metallers SOREPTION have revealed the title of their debut album, along with the tracklisting for it. It’s the followup to their debut EP Illuminate The Excessive, and will be called Deteriation of Minds. We aren’t sure if that misspelling is deliberate or not.
Below is a video clip from SOREPTION’s sessions at Blue Oyster Studios. Tommy Rehn (Angtoria, Moahni Moahna) will mix.
I know I've never played this band on the show before, but that's mostly because I haven't been able to get my paws on a copy of their EP. Check out their MySpace page, and give it a listen...pretty cool tech-death.
A high-quality version of the new SUFFOCATION song "Mental Hemorrhage" has surfaced. The video was taken from their 3/29/2009 show in Orangeville, CA. Suffocation's new full-length, "Blood Oath" will be released July 3rd on Nuclear Blast records.
This is by far the best quality version of MH that's surfaced, making it much easier for me to positively say that this song does indeed stomp ass. Love live the Frank Mullen Hand Chop!
This isn't really "metal," but it is amazing. Guitarist Jan Akkerman is arguably the original shredder and you gotta' give it up for the yodeling. Respect.
