Moar Augury Details

Earlier I posted details about the new Augury album "Fragmentary Evidence". A couple new pieces of information have surfaced including this ridonkulous list of guest vocalists:

Sven De Calluwé (ABORTED, SYSTEM DIVIDE)
Syriak and Leilindel (UNEXPECT)
Youri Raymond (CRYPTOPSY, UNHUMAN)
Sébastien Croteau (NECROTIC MUTATION)
Filip Ivanovic (AGONY)
Eric Fiset (OBSCENE CRISIS, NERVOUS IMPULSE)

and this bass video of Forest playing "Simian Cattle" (which is too big and awesome to fit on the blog, so click the video to see it full-size on YouTube):

What's This? A "Top" Metal List That Doesn't Suck?

Spin magazine have released their list of the "Top 5 Metal Bands You Know," and surprisingly, it doesn't suck.

How Spin succeeded at creating a "top ___ metal bands list" that isn't laughably bad, and metal-themed magazines (Metal Hammer, Revolver, etc.) routinely fail at it is beyond me, but either way, good on them. Here they are (check out the full article here):

5. Trash Talk
4. Toxic Holocaust
3. Kylesa
2. Krallice
1. Baroness

Anyone who listens to the show regularly probably recognizes at least Krallice and Toxic Holocaust, as I play them fairly regularly. Baroness may have popped up once or twice, but I know I haven't played Trash Talk or Kylesa...I'll remedy that this week.

New Sickening Horror Track

Self-explanatory title. Check it.

New Anaal Nathrakh Tunes

Extreme metallers ANAAL NATHRAKH have posted two new songs to their MySpace page off their upcoming album "In The Constellation Of The Black Widow." You can check them out here.

I've never listened to these guys before, so I don't really have much to say. Slow news day.

New Negura Bunget Material

Pretty much what the title says--this video was taken at Inferno Fest 2009 in Norway. The video shows "Ceasuri Rele" in full, with new material tacked on the end. Sounds fantastic, but there's no reason it shouldn't, because hey, it's Negura Bunget:

Los Angeles Murderfest 5.0 Line-Up Finalized

I know this isn't too pertinent to us here in the Willamete Valley, but if any of you are going to be in LA while this fest is going on, go to this. It's as good a death metal festival as we'll get on the West Coast.

Moar Biolich Downloads

A while back, I posted a link to (legally) download BIOLICH's 1997 demo tape. Well, the New Yorkers are reportedly in the process of making their entire discography available for free, on account of most of it being fucking impossible to find.

You can now download the 2001 and 2004 demos either by clicking on those years, or traveling to the bands MySpace page and clicking the links in the "Sounds Like" section.

New Wormed Material Probably On The Way

A little birdy told me that Portugal's WORMED are deep in to the writing process and may soon be signed to a pretty fucking awesome label *cough*Brutal Bands*cough*. I don't have anything official, so you're just going to have to take my word for it.

Drummer Andy C left the band not too long ago, and I haven't heard who his replacement is going to be, so hopefully we'll see that announcement soon.

Nu-Suffo Artwork And Titles

From the new album "Blood Oath" due out July 3rd:

1. Blood Oath
2. Dismal Dream
3. Pray For Forgiveness
4. Images Of Purgatory
5. Cataclysmic Purification
6. Mental Hemorrhage
7. Come Hell Or High Priest
8. Undeserving
9. Provoking The Disturbed
10. Martial Decimation

Not the coolest album cover I've seen, but I've seen much worse and it's definitely a step up from the artwork on the last one. Either way, good/bad artwork is not the reason I'll be buying this album.

Element Reveal Details About New Album

I don't have many specifics, as I got this news story from a forum post, but ELEMENT have released album art, album title and the track list for their upcoming album. It'll be called the "The Energy" and recording officially started on April 11th. There is a snippet from the upcoming album on their MySpace page.

1. Circle Of Ascension
2. Vexed
3. The Energy
4. A Gesture From November
5. Everchanging
6. Sunset Karavan
7. Into The Neverdark
8. Tragedy Of The Jesters Symphony
9. Liquid Space Eyes
10. Dreaming Forever

That album art is absolutely amazing. I'll be buying the album purely for that.

New Azarath Tracks

Poland's AZARATH have posted two new tracks ("Invocation" and "Sacrifice Of Blood") from their upcoming album "Praise The Beast" (May 25th, Agonia/Deathgasm Records) to their MySpace page. AZARATH features BEHEMOTH drummer Inferno.

If nothing else these two tracks are worth listening to for Inferno's apeshit drumming and the vocal chant on "Sacrifice Of Blood," shit is epic.

Guttural Secrete Signs To Brutal Bands

I don't have an official story for this yet, but the word on the street is that Las Vegas' GUTTURAL SECRETE have (or will soon be) signed on to label Brutal Bands. Apparently, they are also pretty deep into the writing process, so hopefully we'll see a follow up to "Reek Of Pubescent Despoilment Soon," and maybe a tour.

Like I said, I don't have a story as I don't think anything is official yet, so here's a sweet CEPHALOTRIPSY video featuring Matt from GUTTURAL SECRETE:

9. Obsequiem Minaris - 03:53
10. Hidden Genocide - 05:20

Total playing time - 41:27

Gorod's second album is a tech-death masterpiece. It avoids over-technicality and wankery, striking a perfect balance between tech and groove, brutal and melodic. Definitely worth a listen.

Morbid Angel - Gateways To Annihilation

1. Kawazu - 00:36
2. Summoning Redemption - 07:17
3. Ageless, Still I Am - 05:18

10. I - 03:50
11. God Of The Forsaken - 03:50

Total playing time - 44:28

Fact: Morbid Angel rules--it's science, look it up. Yet somehow, in the face of irrefutable scientific evidence, I managed to overlook Morbid Angel's "Gateways to Annihilation" for years. It could be because it features Steve Tucker on vox, and the first Steve Tucker album I heard ("Heretic") was laughably bad. It may also be because it's toward the back of MA's alphabetical discography, and I was too caught up in the dick-stomping A-D albums to make way down the line. Either way, I'm making an admission of faggotry, because "Gateways" is fucking amazing.

On their first three albums, Morbid Angel proved that they could play really, really fast. On their fourth, they proved that they could slow it down and get a little grimey. What "Gateways" represents is an apolcalyptic, tormented union of the two styles. Take for example, the 3-hit combo of "To The Victor, The Spoils," "At One With Nothing," and "Opening Of The Gates"; the first shows the speed, the second shows the sludge, and the third is what happens when the first two have sex, don't use protection and decide not to abort. It's got super-chunky rhythms, courtesy of Eric Rutan, mind-bending Azagthoth riffs (duh), 808-style bass drops that would make Kanye jealous, and 220+ BPM hyperblasts from Pete Sandoval that are absolutely gut-busting (which were apparently quantized on the recording without his knowledge). This song is worth the download alone and really is a microcosmic representation of the album as a whole--it's creative, evil, brutal and powerful as fuck.

Wolves In The Throne Room - Malevolent Grain

Megaupload
1. A Looming Resonance 13:01
2. Hate Crystal 10:38
Total playing time: 23:39

It's two songs, and their first album with new guitar player, Will Lindsay (ex-MIDDIAN). It also features female vocalist Jami Meyers (HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE), who was on their debut album, "Diadem of 12 Stars." The vinyl is available to purchase from Southern Lord Records

Moar Behemoth

Sorry dudez, I don't mean to turn this into the Behemoth Blog, but here are the other two studio updates they've posted for the new album (the one I already posted was Ep. III):

Behemoth - At The Left Hand Ov God Video

I talked about the pure cheesiness/asskickery of this video on the show last night, so here it is for all those who haven't seen it:

Seriously, see these guys live if you ever get the chance. They'll most likely be playing second bill to some garbage "-core" band, but it'll worth it, considering Behemoth will probably tear you and everyone else in the crowd a new asshole.

New Inherit Disease Material

California's INHERIT DISEASE have posted a new song to MySpace, from their upcoming untitled full length. The song is called "Beyond The Tyranny Of Entropy," and can be heard here.

Here is a video of them playing another song off the album (sans vocals):

Birth Of The Artilect

This new stuff sounds pretty promising to me. The productions isn't great, but that could be the shitty MySpace player. There's some nice riffs in there, and the drum patterns have improved a ton since their last album "Procreating An Apocalypse." The vocals still don't do a whole lot for me, but the new material indicates this new album with probably with picking up.

LOL Scott Hull Hates Nu-Thrash

Taken from Noisecreep.com:

AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED are known for their spasmodic take on grindcore, but as the band's leader Scott Hull told Noisecreep last month, their upcoming album, "Agorapocalypse," was also inspired by crossover thrash greats CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. We asked the guitarist what he thought about the current crop of thrash bands that have popped up in the last few years. "The optimist in me thinks it's cool to have a new strain of influence that gets people excited. Unfortunately, it reeks of opportunism," complains Hull.

We obviously struck a nerve because he wasn't done yet. "The strangest thing is most of them don't really sound like the bands I was listening to back then. It all really does seem very fad-ish." His bullshit radar also detects some questionable fashion choices, "Certainly it's a rehash and it's weird to see some of these bands hamming it up for the camera, flipping the bills of their hats up." In the end, Hull admits the new breed of thrash acts are probably not going away anytime soon, "I don't know but it's hard for me to be tough on bands that are doing what they do well."

Last year Hull oversaw a collection called "This Comp Kills Fascists" for the folks at Relapse Records, which exclusively featured grind bands. We asked him if it was his way of paying tribute to the compilations that inspired him. "Absolutely, you've hit the nail on the head! Compilations like "Cry Now, Cry Later, the "Reality" comps, "Accidental Double Homicide" (Satan's Pimp's 7" comps), Earache Records' "Grindcrusher" comp, "The North Atlantic Noise Attack," and "Apocalyptic Convulsions" are all classics in their genres and they had a huge impact on me." The scrappy artwork for "This Comp Kills Fascists" also had special meaning to Scott: "I also wanted to have the artwork reflect back to the time when no one had Photoshop. It was all about going into Kinko's with some stolen artwork and copying, cutting, and pasting everything together."

Despite his brutal recording output with AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, PIG DESTROYER, and his various other projects, Hull is a family man with kids, a mortgage, and a job working with the government. Growing up in a home with a music collection as vast and eclectic as Hull's probably sounds like complete bliss to anyone reading this. Noisecreep had to ask Scott if his kids like blast beats yet. "Well, my one-year-old dances to anything with a drumbeat but my older son hates grind. He hates all of the screaming and is into his mom's club music a lot more. He'll be like my Alex P. Keaton."

Even though I think he should spend less time worrying about nu-thrash and more time making less shitty AxNxBx albums, I tend to agree with Scott on this. With the exception of Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust, none of these bands are doing anything original in a genre that really peaked in the 1980's. Dumbs kids are latching on to this the way they latched on to deathcore, and will continue to latch on to the newest fad after this becomes old hat.

Behemoth Post Studio Updates

Taken from Blabbermouth.com:

Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH have posted the third in a series of webisodes (see below) documenting the making of their new, as-yet-untitled album. The band is currently working in the "B room" of Radio Gdansk, recording guitar solos and vocals, with Jan Bryt behind the mixing board.

BEHEMOTH bassist Orion has issued a following update: "We're getting further and further with the work on this new album, the end is near! For bass tracks recording, I used tested, verified and proven for years ESP basses and Sansamp preamplifier. Plus quite new in my arsenal — Marbass amp and cabinet. This time, there was less of searching and more of self-confidence, realizing very definite and precise goals in the matter of sound. Resolutely, it's the most efficient and conscious recording session of BEHEMOTH!"

BEHEMOTH has tapped Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS) to mix its new CD, due out late summer via Metal Blade (USA) and Nuclear Blast (Europe).

BEHEMOTH mainman Nergal previously stated about the new material, "I must confess that I'm way more excited about this record than I was for 'The Apostasy'. It's probably the whole label situation that we had to deal back then, Inferno's injury that caused crazy deadlines that completely drained the energy out of my system… I even started treating that album as unwanted child. Weird, because from time perspective, it's a great one. This time though everything was planned much in advanced. I found time to live my life, get some energy back, get inspired and so on… When we met in October it was obvious that all of us were really hungry for making new music. It's definitely 100% BEHEMOTH. I would risk saying that we do have our own style but it's still improving, evolving in different directions every time we approach new project. Most of the songs are the really fast, technical and intense, at the same time there's a lot of diversity. There's even a very slow, massive song that's probably the most epic tracks in BEHEMOTH's history. Everything sounds more serious and…dangerous (I love that word, ha ha). There's probably more sinister vibe in our music this time too."

The more of these updates I see from these guys, the more excited I get for this release. Admittedly, after "The Apostasy" I wasn't too excited for more of the (same) Behemoth, but it sounds like they might be going in a different/better direction. Plus, a new album means a new tour, and for those who haven't seen them live, Behemoth fucking kills it...one of the gnarliest live bands around.

The album was released in the US on April 14th.

New Gorod Song

GOROD have posted a new track "Disavow Your God"from their upcoming album "Process Of A New Decline" on MySpace. The album, which is due out "before the summer," is the first to feature Sam (ex-ZUBROWSKA) on drums.

Gorod's last album, "Leading Vision," is an absolute masterpiece, in my opinion. While this new song is awesome, and I find myself listening to it over and over again (that tapping section...holy shit!), it's hard to tell if the new album has the potential to usurp "Leading Vision," based solely on the one cut. Better or not, I'm sure it'll be turn out to be worth multiple spins. Check out some of the videos below:

Soreption Reveal Details About Debut Album

Taken from SMNnews.com:

Swedish technical death metallers SOREPTION have revealed the title of their debut album, along with the tracklisting for it. It’s the followup to their debut EP Illuminate The Excessive, and will be called Deteriation of Minds. We aren’t sure if that misspelling is deliberate or not.

Tracklist:
1. 5
2. 6
3. 7
4. 8
5. 9
6. 10
7. 11
8. 12

Below is a video clip from SOREPTION’s sessions at Blue Oyster Studios. Tommy Rehn (Angtoria, Moahni Moahna) will mix.

I know I've never played this band on the show before, but that's mostly because I haven't been able to get my paws on a copy of their EP. Check out their MySpace page, and give it a listen...pretty cool tech-death.

Nu-Suffo

A high-quality version of the new SUFFOCATION song "Mental Hemorrhage" has surfaced. The video was taken from their 3/29/2009 show in Orangeville, CA. Suffocation's new full-length, "Blood Oath" will be released July 3rd on Nuclear Blast records.

This is by far the best quality version of MH that's surfaced, making it much easier for me to positively say that this song does indeed stomp ass. Love live the Frank Mullen Hand Chop!

Video Of The Day: Focus - Hocus Pocus

This isn't really "metal," but it is amazing. Guitarist Jan Akkerman is arguably the original shredder and you gotta' give it up for the yodeling. Respect.

New Devourment Tunez

1. Fed To The Pigs
2. Unleash The Carnivore

These are the two new tracks from the upcoming DEVOURMENT album "Unleash The Carnivore." I know the file is huge for two songs, but they're in lossless format, so enjoy, hookers. Oh, the songs are on their MySpace too and (lead singer) Mike Majewski told me to "spread that shit," when I got them, so the upload is kosher.
